How do I get started?
We start with a 30-minute initial consult. We will send you forms from our EHR software (Simple Practice) asking you to complete the paperwork.  Remember to check your spam folder if you do not receive it in a timely manner.  We will review chief complaints and medical history at the consultation and evaluate the next steps.

If we decide to proceed, we will schedule a complete functional evaluation at the consult for approximately an hour. If the evaluation is in person, you simply need to show up to your appointment at the location determined. If online, we send an additional document through the EHR portal (Simple Practice) with all the photos that must be taken before the appointment and uploaded into the portal. Please read the instructions carefully so we get great starting photos. Great initial images are vital in showing progress. On those photo instructions, you will find the tools you will need to bring for that appointment. Critical points for a virtual functional evaluation are good lighting and a fast Internet service.

After the complete functional evaluation, if you choose to move forward with therapy, you will get a bag of tools at your first therapy appointment; these will be used for therapy. Please keep them in a safe place. Items can be replaced initially at no extra cost.

Therapy appointments (virtual and in-person) are usually 30-45 minutes every 7-10 days.

What information will I get from my consult?
The purpose of the 30-minute consultation is to answer any general questions you may have about Myofunctional Therapy and determine if a Comprehensive Evaluation is a suitable next step for you. It's an opportunity to connect and see if I am the right match for your needs. This consultation will take place via telehealth appointment. Please note that a consultation is not mandatory before a comprehensive exam.

Why is it important to complete a Comprehensive Evaluation, and what can I expect during it?
The Comprehensive Exam is a crucial assessment that allows us to thoroughly evaluate how your symptoms are interrelated with your Myofunctional Dysfunctions. By gathering comprehensive information during this examination, we can create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, ensuring a pathway to success.
Our team conducts a thorough examination that covers various aspects, including but not limited to:
- Tonsils and adenoids
- Differentiating between mouth and nasal breathing
- Identifying the resting position of the tongue in the mouth
- Assessing for tongue-tie
- Reviewing past, present, or future orthodontic treatments
- Exploring potential speech concerns related to myofunctional disorders
- Examining facial structure and growth
- Identifying compensatory mechanisms
- Evaluating habits such as thumb and finger sucking
- Analyzing swallowing patterns
- Jaw pain and dysfunction
- Head, neck, and facial pain
- Snoring and sleep apnea
This comprehensive approach allows us to gain a holistic understanding of your orofacial condition, laying the groundwork for an effective and tailored treatment strategy.

How long does therapy take?
The duration of treatment varies from one patient to another, contingent upon individual needs. Following a thorough assessment, we will tailor a treatment plan specific to your requirements and determine the number of sessions needed. Appointments are typically scheduled at intervals of 1 to 3 weeks.
While the average duration for Comprehensive Therapy falls within the range of 8 to 10 months, it's essential to recognize that each individual's journey is unique, and as such, this timeframe is highly variable. Treatment duration is influenced by factors such as symptoms, primary concerns, patient compliance, motivation, and any coordinated care involved in the treatment process.

Where do I go for therapy?
Therapy offers flexibility, accommodating your needs wherever you may be - whether it's the comfort of your home, office, or while traveling, through Tele-therapy. Tele-therapy sessions are conducted online via our EHF's (Simple Practice) video conferencing app or other platforms like Google Meets or Microsoft Teams.
For those preferring in-person sessions, we have two convenient locations:
1. 1000 Abernathy Road NE, Suite 330, Atlanta, GA 30338
2. 5450 Copper Springs Lane, Cumming, GA 30040

How long are therapy sessions?
The comprehensive evaluation is a thorough process that typically lasts between 1 and 1 1/2 hours. Subsequent therapy sessions are generally shorter, typically about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on individual needs and progress.

Will I be referred to any other doctors, providers, or specialists?
Collaboration with specialists is crucial for providing comprehensive care to patients. Some patients may need to be referred to other healthcare providers for conditions such as sleep apnea, enlarged tonsils, severe allergies, tongue tie, orthodontic issues, and speech therapy. This approach ensures that patients receive a wide range of support from different healthcare professionals, which is vital for addressing their specific healthcare needs.
